Overclocking: The Zotac GeForce 9600 GT AMP! Edition graphics card is pre overclocked, but we’ve managed to squeeze a little extra out of the graphics card. The core, which is running 725MHz, has been clocked to 738MHz, while the 512MB GDRR3 RAM has been clocked from 2000MHz to 2176MHz.
These are the results from Futuremark 3DMark03, 3DMark05, 3DMark06. For comparison we’ve used the results from before without overclocking:
Conclusion: The Zotac GeForce 9600 GT AMP! Edition is a brilliant graphics card at a very good price. Performance wise, it’s at GeForce 8800GT level, and with the new ForceWare drivers especially for the GeForce 9600 series, there’s more features for HTPC’s.
The Zotac GeForce 9600 GT AMP! Edition is not a high-end graphics card, so even though it’s a new series of graphics cards, we’ll have to wait for the high end cards to really beat the 8800 cards.
The card isn’t completely noise-less, but compared to a few of the other cards in the 8800 series, it’s nothing to be afraid of. And the Zotac GeForce 9600 GT AMP! Edition cooler only uses the one slot the card is installed in (single slot).
Several other manufacturers have released a 1GB GDDR3 version of the GeForce 9600GT, and it could have been fun to see what the doubling of RAM would do. This should also increase the lifespan of the graphics card, even though development is happening all the time in the industry.
Summing up, you get a pre-clocked graphics card which supports DirectX 10, PCI Express 2.0, Pure Video and audio trough HDMI. And since the Zotac GeForce 9600 GT AMP! Edition is priced at around 1.500, - DKK, you definitely get something for your money. We’ve chosen to give the graphics card our “Great Product” price.
