In Call of Juarez the 9800GTX has some problems, and it looks like a driver issue. The test was done 10 tens to be sure of the result, but stayed at the same result every time.
The last test to perform is Knights of the Sea, and in this game there’s a lot of open spaces and water. The cards ability to handle soft particles, reflections, HDR and light will be tested.
In this comparison, the 9800GTX is at the top. But it doesn’t pull away from the 8800GTS cards big time. But the 9800GTX card is beaten in Knights of the Sea by the 8800GTS when the resolution is set and many details are applied.
Ignoring the Call of Juerez test, the Sparkle SF-PX88GT512D3-HP card is a well performing card in the high end of the scale.
Unfortunately the Sparkle SF-PX88GT512D3-HP isn’t just beaten performance vise by the 8800GTS. The Sparkle SF-PX88GT512D3-HP produces a lot of noise, but at second thought this isn’t weird. You use an almost identical cooler, but the 9800GTX requires an extra power connection, and as always more power consumption means more noise. Conclusion:
In this test we’ve reviewed Nvidia’s latest 9800GTX card, and this one was produced by Sparkle, and called SF-PX88GT512D3-HP.
At first sight, the card looks promising, but unfortunately the 9800GTX doesn’t hit the target. The price of a 9800GTX at the moment is around 2400, - DKR, and the 8800GTS is priced at around 1600, - DKR, so there’s no doubt that the Sparkle SF-PX88GT512D3-HP doesn’t deliver 800, - DKR worth of extra performance.
It was about time that Nvidia released some cards with SPDIF connections, but undersigned doesn’t understand why the cards haven’t been equipped with an HDMI port also.
All in all, there’s been mixed feelings when reviewing the Sparkle SF-PX88GT512D3-HP card. The performance is great, but not at the current price. The lack of a proper bundle and the noisy cooler means that undersigned is left with a somewhat tame feeling. The 9800GTX card is great, but not when compared to other products on the market.
