Most people knowing Raidsonic is familiar with their ICY BOX series. This is only the second time we’re looking at a product from Raidsonic. Raidsonic is a manufacturer who concentrates on producing data storage solutions, making everything from NAS solutions to media players and HOTSWAP modules for internal installation.
In this review, we’re having a closer look at a harddrive box that also functions as a media player for all your pictures, videos and music on your SATA disc.
Here are the specifications:
• Video media: MPEG-1, MPEG-2 (AVI, VOB, ISO), MPEG-4 (AVI, DivX, DivX Video on Demand (VOD), XviD)
• Audio media: WMA, WAV, MP3, AAC, AC3, OGG Vorbis

The Icy Box IB-MP303S-B Media Player is packed in a sensational pink/black box. On the front of the package you find a picture of the harddrive box itself. On the rest of the sides a more detailed overview of the specifications for the ICY BOX IB-3218StU-B is printed.
After opening the box, the following meets our eye:
- The harddrive box
- Remote control
- 230V adapter
- Video cable
- Power cable
- Scart adapter
- Screws for HDD installation
- USB cable
The bundle is pretty decent. Especially the many cables that supports a variety of ways to transfer the data to the TV. For ones it should be mentioned that the manuals is worth reading, as they provide a good overview of how the single functions work, something you might find difficult to learn without it.
In other words, Raidsonic has made sure that you’ve got everything you need to get started using the ICY BOX IB-3218StU-B. According to the manual a CD with USB drivers for older operating systems should be bundled as well, but for some reason this is not in the box.
The next thing to talk about is the product itself. When taking the case out of the box, the first thing that comes to mind is “Mac Mini, but black”. In my opinion that’s very understandable, since they’re both about equally sized and both have rounded edges. Besides reminding me of a Mac Mini, it also reminds me of my old lunchbox, only more stylish. Starting off by looking at the base itself, it’s made of hard black mated plastic.
