As seen in the table above, the TS-209 PRO is packed with software for a lot of purposes, and instead of just listing everything, I’ve chosen to highlight a few of the functions the NAS box contains.
It supports RAID 0, RAID 1 and JBOD which also makes it possible to have redundant hard drive space. This means the data is stored on both discs so that if one disc breaks down, you still have the data on the other one.
This prevents data loss which could be the case if a disc breaks down.
RAID 0 (striped) puts the two discs together as one big drive. The good thing about RAID 0 is that the write speed is increased, but the downside is that if one disc breaks down you loose all data on both drives. Today’s hard drives are fast enough, and the network won’t be able to keep up with the discs (not even without RAID 0).
The box of course has FTP which means that if you have an FTP client on your PC, you can easily hook it up to the NAS and download directly from it. You can also make user accounts and say that Peter will only be able to access a specific folder, and Marie will only be able to access another etc.
It will run as a web server with html, PHP and it has its own mySQL server, making it possible to set up a little database for the website or software to run on your PC.
Actually Tweak.dk would be able to run without problems on this NAS box.
As mentioned before it has 3 USB ports, making it possible to connect an external hard drive (USB) and then copy data directly from the USB hard drive to the NAS BOX.
It has a download manager, making it possible to download torrents directly. (This enables you to have a little download server instead of making your normal PC do it.)
It can also handle http and FTP download, for getting big game demo’s or software like Futuremarks applications.
This is only a few of the box’s capabilities and the possibilities are almost endless.
The product:

Hard drive installation is easy because the SATA drives sits in HOT-SWAP mounts that slides in to place. Because the discs are HOT SWAP, you can take out the discs when you need to. (Shouldn’t be done without thinking it trough)

One of the 3 USB ports is located in the front and next to it is a button. If you press the button the contents of the connected USB flash disc will be copied to the hard drives (This is also called fast copy, and is a very nice feature. If you connect a digital camera to the NAS box server and press the copy button, all pictures will be transferred to the hard drive.
