Introduction:
In this review, we’re testing an MSI product. Lately we’ve reviewed a series of both graphics cards and motherboards from MSI. In this review, we’re dealing with their P6NGM-FD motherboard. The MSI P6NGM-FD is bases on Intel’s socket 775 and designed for office machines or media centers.

Packaging:
The MSI P6NGM-FD arrives in a blue box, with the front dominated by a Star Wars like spaceship. On the front, the supported CPU’s is posted.

Besides that, the front also reveals that the MSI P6NGM-FD is based on Nvidia’s MCP73 chipset. On the backside of the package we find a more detailed description of what the MSI P6NGM-FD motherboard has to offer.

The box doesn’t contain much more than the motherboard. Two driver cd’s for Windows Vista and Windows XP is bundled as well as an IO-shield.

It’s hard to say that MSI have sent a huge bundled with their MSI P6NGM-FD motherboard. It’s not even possible to call it “all you need”. The least you could expect was a couple of SATA cables, an IDE cable and perhaps a floppy cable – and last but not least, a manual would have been nice.

Specifications:
Moving on, we have a look at what features and specifications the MSI P6NGM-FD has to offer. As mentioned previously, the MSI P6NGM-FD motherboard is based on Nvidia’s MCP73 chipset, which is a chip containing graphics and all the features you normally expect from a chipset. The first thing we look at is the dimensions of the motherboard:

• Længde 24,4 cm
• Brede 22,0 cm
• Formfaktor: mATX

The Nvidia MCP73 chipset is built from the Nvidia nForce 630i and Nvidia GeForce 7100 graphics card. MSI have chosen to use the features of these two units, giving the MSI P6NGM-FD motherboard the following specifications. The motherboard supports the following CPU’s:

• Supports Socket 775 for Intel® Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo, P4, P4EE,
   Pentium D, Pentium XE processors.
• Supports FSB 1333/1066/800/533MHz
• Supports EIST technology
• Supports Intel® Hyper-Threading technology

In other words, the MSI motherboard supports all the new CPU’s – but not the newest Yorkfield CPU’s, but there’s full support for the Wolfdale CPU’s. When talking about RAM, the MSI P6NGM-FD motherboard supports the following speeds and sizes:

• Supports single channel DDR2 533/667/800
• Two 240-pin/1.8V DDR2 DIMMs.
• Supports a maximum memory size up to 4GB
