Dimension • 30.5cm(L) x 24.5cm(W) ATX Form Factor
As it can be seen from these specs, the motherboard supports DDR2 and DDR3 RAM – also, it can be noted that there is only one PATA controller, but on the other hand 6 SATA slots.
Internal I/O Connectors - ATX 24-Pin power connector - ATX 4-pin VGA power connector - ATX 8-pin 12V power connector - CPU x 1 / System x 5 FAN connectors - CD-in connector - Front panel audio connector - Front panel connector - Clear CMOS button - 1 x SPDIF-out pinheader - 1 x chasis intrusion connector - 1 x serial port pinheader - 3 x USB 2.0 connectors - 1 x Floppy disk drive connector - 5 x Serial ATAII connectors - 1 x ATA133 connector - 1 x IEEE1394 connector support additional 1 port (optional) - 2 x H/W OC pinheaders (optional)
Back Panel I/O Ports - 1 x PS/2 keyboard - 1 x PS/2 mouse - 2 x eSATA ports (please refer to Intel website for eSATA function) - 1 x 6 in 1 audio jack - 6 x USB 2.0 ports - 1 x RJ45 LAN jack - 1 x IEEE1394 port - 1 x Optical SPDIF out (optional)
On this list it is worth noticing that a Clear CMOS switch has been added – instead of the usual jumpers. Also, there are a total of 6 connections for fans (including CPU).
The back panel is distinct due to the many sound outputs, and it is interesting that we here find an optical SPDIF output as well. Furthermore, 2 eSATA slots have been included on the back.
THE PRODUCT: When looking at the layout of the P35 Platinum motherboard, the attention is quickly drawn to the large passive cooling profiles surrounding the northern bridge.
There isn’t much space around the CPU due to the large cooling profiles and the heatpipes. It has to be mentioned, though, that they are located quite low so that many of the big CPU-coolers will be installable after all. One might fear that, in spite of the large cooler plates, problems would arise in regard to the cooling of the northern bridge, but this is not the case and even when the card is overclocked, it is still possible to keep a finger on the passive elements.
