The product:
The cooler itself is made from cobber and aluminium, and uses heat pipes. The cooler has contact with the RAM chips as well as the core.



The only critical thing to mention about the cooler is the fan, which looks very small, and that’s often associated with a lot of noise

The test:
To fully test the MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC, we use software like 36mark06, 3dmark05 and 3dmark03. All three is run at standard settings. To have a comparison, the MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC is tested against other cards: Asus 8800GTS 640, Asus 8600GTS 256 Silent edition, Asus 8600GTS 256, Asus 7300GT 256 and a Calibre 8600GT. All cards were tested in a system with the following hardware:

• Asus P5K-E • Intel Core2Duo E6600 • 2x Corsair CMX21024-6400C4 • 2x WD 2500KS • Corsair HX620W • Antec P180 • Windows Vista 64 bit

First, we have a look at the performance in 3dmark03.



In our selection of tested cards, there’s no doubt about the MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC being the best. The next test is 3dmark05.



Same thing over again. Final test is 3dmark06.



Once again the MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC is the winner, and with almost a 1000 more points than the 8800GTS, there’s no doubt which card is the best in this comparison.

While reviewing the card, we mentioned that the small fan might be noisy, but luckily we were wrong. The MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC didn’t make any more noise than the GTS dual-slot cooler.

Worth mentioning though, is that if you turn up the fan speed to a 100 %, the card is very noisy, however the fan didn’t reach this level when benching.

Conclusion:
The last time we reviewed an MSI product, was their Nvidia 5750 graphics card. In this test, we’ve seen their 8800GT Graphics card – the MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC

Whether it’s because of the pre-overclock on the MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC or because the G92 core is better optimized than the G80, it doesn’t change the fact that the MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC is a way better card than the 8800GTS.

At the moment the MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC costs around 1700kr, which is a very good price for a card of this calibre.

On first eye sight, one might fear that the small fan would be very noisy, but luckily this isn’t the case. The high performance, low price and low noise level means that MSI has made a very good graphics card, the MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC.
