Introduction: MSI has sent us their top of the line graphics card. In this test we’re reviewing their version of the 9800GX2 graphics card – The card MSI has sent us is called N9800GX2-M2D1G.
Nvidia 9800GX2 is the direct successor of the Nvidia 7950GX2 card. Both cards have been built on the same principles. Nvidia takes 2 of their fastest chips + 1 GB RAM and place it on 2 PCB’s that’ll be put together by a 3rd chip. There’s no doubt about the 9800GX2 being Nvidia’s absolute top card, so it’ll be interesting to see what the top model from the green camp has to offer.
Packaging: As always we start of by having a look at the package, and at the bundled accessories. The MSI N9800GX2-M2D1G is packed in an almost square box with MSI’s logo dominating the front left side.
Besides that there’s a number of information about the cards specifications. Other than the card, you find a number of other stuff. We’ll start off with the cables and connectors:
• DVI til VGA konventer • 2 x PCI –e power cables (Molex to PCI-e) • Komponent out kable • S-video out kable
The HDMI cable has replaced the well known S-video and component cable that has been bundled with MSI’s graphics cards before. But there’s no doubt that a lot of people will be happy about this change. Besides various cables and connectors, the usual driver CD and a manual is bundled with the MSI N9800GX2-M2D1G card.
As an extra bonus, MSI has bundled two complete games with the MSI N9800GX2-M2D1G card – DiRT and Lord of the Rings Online.
The bundle is pretty good, and especially the HDMI cable is a welcome initiative.
