Introduction: In this review we're taking a closer look at a pair of RAM modules from Crucial. Last time we reviewed RAM modules from Crucial, we had a value set on the bench consisting of 2 x 1 GB modules. This time we're dealing with something completely different, we're having a look at 2 x 2 GB PC6400 modules in Crucials Tracer series.
Most of Crucials production is concentrated around RAM products, making everything from RAM, flash RAM and Solid State harddrives.
Packaging: The modules from Crucial are packed in a very neutral looking package - like the modules previously reviewed from Crucial. It's not possible to find any information about the content on the box.
Inside the box you find the two RAM modules and instructions manual, describing how to install the modules.
So nothing about the packaging indicates that we're dealing with some of Crucials high-end RAM.
Specifications: The set we're got from Crucial is called Crucial Ballistix Tracer Red PC-6400 4GB. We'll now have a look at the specifications for the PC2-6400 pair from Crucial:
At first glance the specifications doesn't look like something new, C4 and PC6400 has been seen before, but considering that each module is 2 Gb and the timings is set at 4-4-4-12, it's not something you see every day.
The stated specifications means that in theory the test will show twice the performance of a standard pair of DDR2 RAM at 2 Gb.
The product: Moving on, we take a look at the design of the Crucial Ballistix Tracer Red modules. The first thing you notice is the clear red color.
