Test rig

The motherboard also needs to be tested, and for this, we have our test rig. 2nd generation of the Core i-series uses a new type of socket, so therefore we needed a new CPU. We got a Core i5 2500K - a CPU with the option of changing the multiplier. For testing future LGA 1155 motherboards, we will try to use this rig.

Intel LGA 1155 (P67) setup:

CPU

Intel Core i5 2500K - 3.30GHz

RAM

Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600MHz 4GB (2x2GB)

Hard drive

Samsung F3 1TB (HD103SJ)

Graphics

Sapphire HD5870 1GB (ATI Catalyst Version 10.12)

Motherboard (Test subject)

ASUS P8P67 (Bios 0402 x64)

PSU

Cougar S700

CPU-cooler

Corsair H50

We also need two rival candidates, but unfortunately it is not possible to use the same setup because of the socket types and chipsets. Therefore we will use following two setups, to have something to compare the results with.

AMD AM3 (890FX) setup:

CPU

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T

RAM

KHX DDR3-2000 (1600Mhz 6-6-5-15-18-1T) 4GB(2x2GB)

Hard drive

Corsair Nova 128GB SSD

Graphics

ATI HD5670 (ATI Catalyst Version 10.4)

Motherboard

MSI 890FXA-GD70 (bios v1.3)

PSU

Corsair HX1000W

CPU-cooler

Corsair H50

Intel LGA 1366 (X58) setup:

CPU

Intel I7-930

RAM

KHX2000C9D3T1K3/6GX (1600Mhz) 6GB(3x2GB)

Hard drive

Corsair Force F60GB SSD

Graphics

Sapphire HD5670 (ATI Catalyst Version 10.8)

Motherboard

ASUS Rampage III Gene (bios. 0501)

PSU

Corsair AX850W

CPU-cooler

Corsair H70

The test

To put some numbers on how good this motherboard does in the test, we of course had to test it first. To test this board, we used the BIOS it came with - version 0402 x64.

We will get through the Futuremark programs, Cinebench, AIDA64, WinRAR, HD Tach and a power consumption test.

NB! The different setups in this test cannot directly be compared. It is important to understand, that the two other setups differ from the P67 Express system. They are only in this test to get an idea of how good they are, compared to each other. Therefore, it will also be easier to judge how good the different boards are, when we have tested more of them.

3DMark

Futuremark have two different program groups; 3DMark and PCMark. 3DMark tells something about how good the system renders 3D graphics, for example in games, while PCMarks tells how the system as a unit works for daily use.

(Translator's note: Higher is better, for the graph underneath.)

ASUS P8P67 does very well in 3DMark because of the Core i5 2500K CPU and the Sapphire HD5870 graphics card. The reason for the two other systems not having any points in the 3DMark 11, is because they have not been tested.

PCMark

(Translator's note: Higher is better, for the graph underneath.)

In this test, the setup is a bit lower in points than the two others, but the ASUS P8P67 setup do not have a SSD hard drive, and ASUS Rampage III Gene setup also has 2 GB RAM more than the P8P67 setup.

WinRAR

The WinRAR test measures the motherboard's memory bandwidth between the CPU and memory.

(Translator's note: Higher is better, for the graph underneath.)

The speed is pretty good for both ASUS motherboards, but the P8P67 has been beaten by the 6 GB RAM in triple channel on the Rampage III Gene motherboard.

AIDA64

AIDA64 is not a program that we have worked with before, but it is the same as Everest. This is because it is the same people who are behind both programs, and AIDA64 will take over after Everest. The program tests the speed between the CPU and the memory.

(Translator's note: MB/s - Higher is better. Latency = ns - Lower is better, for the graph underneath.)

The results look good, and there is good speed overall.
