TEST SETUP
We have now come to the point in the test, where we will see how well the Asus P5K Premium/ WiFi-AP Black Pearl Edition performs. To have a base of comparison, we will be matching this motherboard with two other Asus models: P5K-E/WiFi-AP, which is also build up upon the Intel P35 and the P5N-E SLI which holds an nVidia 650i chip.

The test will be conducted on the following hardware:

• Intel Core2Duo E6600
• Coolink Silenator
• 2 stk. Corsair CMX21024-6400C4
• 2 stk. WD 2500KS
• Corsair HX620W
• Antec P180
• Windows Vista64

The performance of the three motherboards will be tested in the following programs:

• 3DMark06
• PCmark05
• SuperPI(16M)
• Winrar
• Everst
• SiSoft Sandra 2007

OVERCLOCKING
Before we take on the benchmarks, we will see how well the Asus P5K Premium/ WiFi-AP Black Pearl Edition is at pushing out performance of a Intel E6600. In other words, we will see how good an overclocker the Asus P5K Premium/ WiFi-AP Black Pearl Edition is. On a side note, it should be mentioned, that this reviewer has managed to obtain a FBS of 370 on a Asus P5K-E/WiFi-AP. So there’s something to compare to. After having toyed around with the motherboard, a FBS above 400 MHz was not achieved. But when everything was set to “Auto” whilst the FSB was steadily increased, it resulted in a FSB of 470 (100 more than previously achieved), though, the system did not run stabile at this speed.

By adjusting the multiplier to 8 and the FSB to 450, we succeeded in running a stabile system, and thereby and increase in FSB of 80 MHz, compared to the Asus P5K-E/WiFi-AP model. So it can be concluded that the Black Pearl version of the P5K series is a better overclocker than its predecessor.

THE TEST
We will start by seeing how much the three motherboards score in 3DMark06. In the test, we have also included the performance of the Asus P5K Premium/ WiFi-AP Black Pearl Edition when overclocked.
