The ASUS EAH2600XT D4/HTDI/256M has two DVI connectors as well as a combined S-video, composite or component connector. On the picture, the small lamellas on the cooling profile are also visible.
The test of the ASUS EAH2600XT has been conducted on the following system:
• MSI P35 Platinum
• Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
• 2x OCZ 1024MB DDR2 1066MHz
• 1x 320GB SATAII 7200 RPM
For comparison, we’ve used a GeForce 8600GT card with 256MB GDDR3 RAM.
We have tested the following games:
• Company Of Heroes
• The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
The OS is Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition in 64-bit with Catalyst 8.1 drivers installed.
We’ll start with Company of Heroes in resolutions of 1024x768, 1280x1024 and 1650x1080. Additional settings have been 0xAA and 16xAF as well as medium quality.
In Prey, we’ve also used the resolutions 1024x768, 1280x1024 and 1650x1080, but in this case with 4xAA and 8xAF.
The same resolutions in F.E.A.R., but with 0xAA and 16xAF.
Last but not least, we’ve tested the ASUS EAH2600XT D4/HTDI/256M in the game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Once again, we’ve used 1024x768, 1280x1024 and 1650x1080. The other settings were 0xAA and 16xAF.
The ASUS EAH2600XT graphics card is a mid-range card with DirectX 10 support. It is a direct competitor to the GeForce 8600GT that we have tested it up against in this test.
The ASUS EAH2600XT is a reasonable card, which is quite low on noise. Even though it has fast DDR4 RAM, is falls quite behind the nVIDIA GeForce 8600GT with GDDR3 RAM – it’s not much, but it can’t keep up.
There’s the possibility of HDMI with 5.1 surround sound, and with H.264 and the rather quiet standard cooler, the card would suit quite well in a HTPC.
The downside to this card is the lacking game-bundle and the fact that it only has 256MB DDR4. It would have been great with 512MB, especially for newer games, and that might very well have dragged the performance of this card above that of the GeForce 8600GT with GDDR3 RAM.
The ASUS EAH2600XT D4/HTDI/256M is priced at around 1,100,- DKK, which is far more than the ca. 800,- DKK that the ASUS EN8600GT with GDDR3 RAM is priced at.
