Toms Hardware har været så heldige at få adgang til AMD's APM (Automated Precision Manufacturing) afdeling i deres fabrik i tyskland.



It was a sunny Monday morning in April when AMD had invited a small group of journalists to talk about AMD's Automated Precision Manufacturing (APM). In a nutshell, APM means integrating facilities and processes throughout the entire production process with the ultimate goal of boosting the chip yield rate to the maximum technological limit.

No exact figures are forthcoming from the firm about how APM and its other process technologies will specifically boost yields, but in our experience, AMD's yield rate is probably somewhere above the 50%. Of course, this figure cannot be confirmed, but it goes without saying that its process cuts costs at the same time.
