Kingston has done an excellent job with their PC4000 memory. Although it is basically just overclocked memory at heart, real testing went into the modules to make sure they perform at their advertised speed and voltage. As a result, don’t expect to get much more out of these chips as is without seriously increasing the voltage, and even then you might not get much extra.
The matched pair of PC4000 512MB modules that Kingston sent us retail for a little over $200, and a 1GB matched pair can be had for about $435. The prices of this memory is steep, but you need to remember that this memory is currently the fastest you can buy, and buying them in a matched pair you are getting the extra peace of mind that the two modules will perform equally well. Overall an excellent package, and a very viable alternative to Corsair’s XMS series of memory.
