When 400 GB hard drives first came to market, people described them as lavish, wasteful, and over priced. After all, who could possibly need 400 GB of hard drive space in a single 3.5" drive? Madness, they said! Utter madness! Of course, while many lambasted these drives, most also coveted the drives and wished they could own them for themselves. Unfortunately, the $500 - $600 price tag for these initial drives kept most end-users away, as linking multiple 200/250 GB drives together in a RAID configuration proved to be a much more cost effective way to get large capacity storage.
