With the latest chipsets there have been many new terms and techniques introduced to the public. In system memory this meant the introduction of DDR2 memory modules. With lower voltage requirements, 4-bit prefetch and enchanced registers the DDR2 is a step forward in terms of technology. Does that lead to speed increases? Yes and no. DDR2 itself allows higher memory clocks to be used than DDR did but the first generation of DDR2 modules are introduced with similar clock speeds than the high-end DDR uses these days. You will also see relatively high latencies printed on the specifications of these first DDR2 offerings.
