CHIP GIANT Intel held a webcast yesterday to announce the introduction of its Nocona microprocessors and confirmed that in 2005 all server and workstation CPUs will be 64-bit. A representative said: "We will launch servers based on this microprocessor as well as a new two way chipset within 60 days.
"With the introduction of Xeon processor for workstations and servers, all the Intel microprocessors for the DP server and workstation marketplace will be 64-bit capable. In 2005 we'll be offering all server and workstation processors that will be 64-bit capable. You'll see a general transition over 2005 and 2006".
