Since the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition with 2MB Cache is out of reach for most users, the Prescott with 1MB Cache is probably the next best thing for those who want the latest technologies in their system. Moreover the price for Prescott is around the same as the Northwood, so there is no harm if you want to try out Prescott.
With longer pipeline, smaller core and large cache, the Prescott sounds like the Pentium 3 Tualatin a few years ago. Probably Prescott will be the last series for Pentium 4 just like what happened to Tualatin. So let's wait for the 90nm process become more mature and capable of higher clock speed, probably we will see the advantages of these new technology in next "Pentium 5".
