Soltek has done well with its GeForceFX SL-5900-FD offering, setting it apart from the rest of the pack. Its cooling unit is truly a step above the standard 5900-class cooler. Extremely thin copper fins which cover a rather large surface area cooled by two quiet fans are just what the doctor ordered. The cooling solution is a single slot solution, thus it doesn't block access to any PCI cards and the card should be able to fit in most SFF cases. Although the purple PCB doesn't aid in any other department besides aesthetics, it’s a welcomed change and may be quite a rather demanded feature by particular case modders.
Prices of GeForce FX 5900-equipped card have fallen into the $190-220 US dollar price range, placing the cards just a smidge above the GeForce FX 5900XT cards. Note that the core of the 5900XT is clocked 10MHz lower, and the memory is a whopping 150MHz slower. The extra coin between a 5900XT-based card and an original 5900 card is easily worth the meager savings.
The overclocking window of the 5900 also allows it to almost reach 5900 Ultra speeds, and there you’ll have yourself a mighty powerful card at a bargain bin price.
