Being the first manufacturer to introduce 8X DVD+R writing into the consumer market, Plextor has again set a ground-breaking benchmark in the optical recording industry - a benchmark for the rest to follow.
At the same time, users can take advantage of the cheaper -R media for their write-once and archiving needs, thanks to the PX-708A's dual DVD format capability. In addition, the drive doubles as a practical CD writer with most of the current technologies in CD recording incorporated (including 24X "Ultra Hi-Speed" CD-RW and 40X CD-R).
However, we can't quite consent the omission of IDE and audio cables, as corporate users or people using factory-assembled PCs may not have those cables handy. Installation of the PX-708A would be tedious for this group of people. Moreover, we would like to see one or two DVD+/-RW in the bundle.
4X DVD+R is available everywhere, and Plextor magically made 8X recording work with these media without compromising quality and compatibility. Carrying Plextor's brand name and the ability to burn a fully loaded DVD+R within eight minutes, the PX-708A will be a big hit in the market even its price tag of aorund SGD$549 (as of 16 Oct) is more towards the steep side - until a similar yet more affordable product appears, that is.
