The Antec LANBOY offers a very nice solution for frequent LAN gamers as the case is one of the lightest mini tower aluminum casings weighing only 4.9kg. Even if it is a mini tower, its clever design allows it to house four 5.25-inch drives and four 3.5-inch drives comfortably. We have to admit that it is quite an achievement to squeeze all that into a casing that measures only 419mm (H) x 209mm (W) x 419mm (D). In addition, the casing has the ability to fit large enthusiast class ATX motherboards too. Installation of drives was easy and space for cabling was adequate thanks to the width of the case and spacious internal design.
Considering the LAN gamer’s point of view, this case would be just nice for all their needs. You should note that what the LANBOY actually offers is the ability to house an ATX motherboard in the smallest tower form factor, yet having all the drives and PSU positioned such that it won’t be difficult to handle the system. The LANBOY is even packaged with a case-carrying strap to easily transport the system. However, one must note that if the case were to remain light, it should not be installed with too many drives and devices as these easily add to the final weight. A LANBOY that is fully decked out is certainly cumbersome to carry about even with the case-carrying strap.
Modded casings are a hot favorite of LAN gamers and the LANBOY even addressed such users by offering a clear acrylic side panel window. The best part of it was the ability to remove the clear panel, perform modifications on it or even completely replace with another color or custom design. This is possible because the acrylic window is held in place by pushpins that are easy to secure and dismantle. To complement the clear side panel window, the LANBOY was equipped with an Antec SmartBlue 350W PSU that has a super bright-LED installed within the PSU to give your case a bluish glow within.
About the only thing we felt missing from the LANBOY were the two casing fans for intake / exhaust and the inability to use active cooling in front of the hard drives. Initially we also hoped that the LANBOY would also come bundled with a blue cold cathode tube light kit for an even stronger lighting effect. However, that would have stretched the suggested retail price of S$199 and it is already a decent proposition.
