The Radeon 9600 Pro is a nice card for $170.00. The performance is very good and it proved to be extremely stable under all conditions. This particular card overclocked beautifully indicating that ATi has done one heck of a job with its first .13u part.
Marks against it include the lack of any type of bundle and more importantly, no RCA to S-video adapter or DVI to RGB converter. These are basic adapters and should be included with any retail card that offers DVI and S-video outputs. The ability to adjust clock rates via the Catalyst driver would also be a nice addition.
I must warn that this is a midrange part so don't expect to crank the IQ settings to their max in all situations. If that is the requirement, look towards a high-end card.
Overall, the 9600 Pro will do the job if you are a user on a budget. If you have $200.00+ to spend on a video card, by all means go for it. If this is not the case, you will not be disappointed with the 9600 Pro as long as your expectations are realistic.
