There is no doubting that anyone looking at the images Apple have on their iPhone page will be impressed by the styling and apparent build quality of the handset. In fact even with the Galaxy S3 sitting on the desk it would be hard not to be a little envious of the on screen images. In the flesh though the two handsets are a little closer than would be expected.
It is an interesting experience examining the new iPhone, the metal surround is stylish and impressively manufactured but the hard edges do feel a little dated compared to newer, more curved, softer edges. The back of the handset is a step up though with the aluminium surface offering a much higher quality than competing handsets...and a little more grip too.
Round at the front we get a lovely clear, crisp display which is the best we have seen on an iPhone to date, though interestingly despite the new larger size it does look a little cramped with the new icons added. When we then place it beside something like the S3 with its larger display the room given to the user gives a more impressive, and spacious feel. It also jumped out at us that the front surface as a whole looks a little dated and in need of a minor refresh.
